Work has changed.

For the first time, the participants in work have changed. Your people used to work alone. Now they work with AI.

So the work itself has to be redesigned, deliberately, by someone who knows what they're doing. It's a design problem. It's the one we work on.

Let AI carry the load.
Keep the judgement human.

Less load on your people. Capability that stays after we leave.

Organizations lean on disciplines to handle complexity. Project management for delivery. Cybersecurity for digital assets. Service management for reliability. AI governance for policy and accountability.

Every one of them predates the question you're facing now: how should work be designed when people and AI both contribute to it?

We call that discipline Human-AI Workflow Design.

There's a discipline missing.

We steward the standard.

Human-AI Workflow Design is published under an open Creative Commons licence. Free to read and free to use. Authored by Brock Hart, stewarded by Overlap, built in public over the coming year with contributors named and credited.

Two roles, and they feed each other.

We build the capability.

Education, workflow design, organizational strategy, and hands-on implementation with your team.

The standard gives everyone a shared language. The practice helps you apply it to your own work.

HOW IT WORKS

Start where you actually are.

Which is probably further back than you'd say out loud in a meeting. Good. That's where the useful work starts.

Every organization we work with moves through the same 3 steps.

01

TALK ·1 – 2 HOURS

Introduction to Generative AI

We come to your team and explain what AI is and what it means for work like yours, in plain language, with room for every question. Including the worried ones.

WORKSHOP ·3 HOURS or 5 HOURS WITH A WORKING BLOCK

AI Learning Lab

Hands-on from the first hour. People bring real tasks and learn by doing, in a room where you can say out loud what you don't understand yet.

Not sure which one? The Introduction is for listening and asking. The Lab is for doing. Leaders who want a private version can ask about our one-on-one executive Lab.

02

Build the capability

Your people build real skill: thinking with AI, and designing the work around it.

COURSE ·5 HOURS ·LEADERS + TEAMS

Thinking with AI

People learn to use AI as a real thinking partner: framing hard questions, loading the right context, surfacing their own assumptions, testing their logic before they commit.

We call this practice Relational AI. It's the individual capability a designed workflow depends on, because a person has to stand inside that workflow and exercise judgement.

COURSE ·5 HOURS ·SMALL COHORT

Human-AI Workflow Design

You learn to map how people and AI work together in a real workflow: who decides, who checks, what the AI carries, what stays human. Teaches the HAWD™ Standard and includes a licence for the Workflow Designer.

03

Get oriented

First, everyone gets on the same page about what AI actually is.

Design the work

Then we take on real work together.

STUDIO ·4 – 12 WEEKS ·LIVE PROJECT

AI Workflow Studio

We take a real project and work on it with your team. Together we design the workflows, build in the human judgement checkpoints, and test everything against real work. By the end, your team runs these workflows without us. That's the actual goal.

FOR LEADERS AND BOARDS

Some doors open from the top.

If you lead an organization, you can start here instead of in a workshop.

ADVISORY ·‍ ‍8 – 16 WEEKS ·‍ ‍LIVE PROJECT

AI Organizational Strategy

A structured process for deciding what AI means for your organization. Where it helps. Where it doesn't. And how your staff become part of the answer instead of afraid of it. You end with a strategy you can actually use: direction, governance, priorities, and next steps.

ADVISORY ·‍ ‍3 – 12 MONTHS ·‍ ‍ONE LEADER

Executive AI Leadership Coaching

Private, ongoing work with a leader who carries real weight. We build your personal AI system, review your thinking together, and strengthen how you decide, reflect, and lead in an AI-enabled environment. A thinking partner who can keep up.

PRODUCT ·‍ ‍POLICY + WORKING SESSION

AI Use Policy for Nonprofits

A plain-language AI policy built for nonprofits: staff policy, board brief, disclosure framework, approved tools, and incident protocol. It gives your team clear permission to use AI well, with the guardrails a board needs. Delivered with a working session for your leadership.

Governance sets the rules.
Design shapes the work.

Governance decides whether AI should be used, who's accountable, and what policy applies.

The work itself still has to be designed: where human judgement is required, who reviews what, and how oversight gets written down instead of assumed. You can't govern what you can't see.

ISO 42001 readiness

Preparing your organization for AI management system certification.

Oversight and accountability design

Making human oversight real inside the workflow, someone can actually check it.

Public sector service design

Designing Human-AI work that holds up to public accountability and internal trust.

THE METHOD UNDERNEATH

The rules shouldn’t change just because the tools do.

The HAWD™ Standard gives the discipline a common language and a practical framework for designing work where people and AI contribute together. It's open and vendor-neutral.

THE COMPANION LAYER

The standard has staying power. Tools turn over every few months, so everything fast-moving lives beside it and we keep that current: the AI Tool Capability Map, and the Workflow Designer.

THE THINKING

The thesis, live.

Relational AI is a framework being written in public. The ideas that become our workshops start here.

RELATIONAL AI, THE NEWSLETTER

Weekly essays for leaders who want to handle AI pressure with their judgement intact. This is where the individual practice gets worked out in public.

SPEAKING & KEYNOTES

Brock's keynotes ask two questions. What human capacity do you want to protect? And what load should AI carry so you can protect it? Built for conferences, retreats, and boards.
